Product Description

The Bob Sheppard Signature alto mouthpiece is the result of a collaboration between Bob Sheppard and Eric Falcon of MACSAX ®.

Drawing inspiration from the classic New York Meyer Bros., this mouthpiece adds many custom features to meet Bob's artistic demands. Made from pure hard rubber, the mouthpiece features a classic medium round chamber and an very gentle roll over baffle. The facing curve was designed to allow the player to have great control and flexibility even at the extreme ranges of dynamics.

The result is a mouthpiece with a thick, rich, and vibrant sound at any dynamic.

Available in these facings:

  • 5 (.072”)
  • 6 (.078”)
  • 7 (.083”)
  • 8 (.090”)
Includes a Rico H Ligature and cap.

Please contact Eric Falcon for all mouthpiece related questions and product selection help: eric@macsax.com - or phone 305-878-9488

  1. Sweeter than honey...

Posted by Professor Wyatt on 9th May 2014

I have been a saxophone professor at Lee University for the past 24 years. I've played a lot of pieces in my time and nothing, NOTHING comes close to the Macsax piece that I recently purchased. I am the proud owner of Sheppard 7 for alto. Its dynamic range is unbelievable - solid core intact while playing ppp yet can take your head off, feeling very little resistance while so doing. The tone is surprisingly warm throughout the dynamic range, as some pieces tend to become harsh at the point of forcing more air. When playing classical duets, my habit was to put on the S90 to keep the dynamics low and the tone color dark. But amazingly with the Sheppard 7, I can have dark and quiet with relative ease. And yet when playing lead alto in a section of slayers I still have the last word, cresting above the lower voices. I'm encouraging all my students to save their money and get a Macsax mouthpiece to make their alto mouthpiece dreams come true. AW

  2. A Modern Classic!

    Eric has done it!

This is one of the best mouthpieces on the market, and as for me it is the best mouthpiece on the market today. This mouthpiece has it all, an even scale, great depth of tone, response all wrapped up in one nice package.

I've played on Ralph Morgan, Mouthpiece Cafe, Ted Klum, RPC, Aaron Drake, Jody Jazz, Phil-Tone, Phil Barone, Aizen and tons of refaced vintage mouthpiece by practically all of the "great refacers" out there today and this mouthpiece beats all of them in every category for me.

This piece has a beautiful warm sound, very full and has the perfect amount of edge to balance it out. It can sing out like a lead piece, and still have the best subtone of any mouthpiece out there today.

    THIS IS THE MOUTHPIECE!

  3. Great mouthpiece

Free blowing, good intonation full range. Wish I had ordered the 8 instead of the 7, but still the best alto mouthpiece I own!
