The Macsax FL-65 tenor sax mouthpiece is a high precision replica of one of the most sought after vintage mouthpieces ever made.
From the early 1950's through the early 1970's Pompano Beach, Florida was home to the Otto Link company run by a gentleman named Ben Harrod. During this time some of the most iconic jazz albums in history were recorded using these highly collectible mouthpieces. Artists such as John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, and Sonny Stitt played these mouthpieces. The sound is at the same time iconic and highly personal, intense and beautiful, penetrating and endlessly complex. Classic in every sense of the word.
Having collected dozens of these classic mouthpieces in search of the ideal sound and playing experience Macsax's Eric Falcon found an example in pristine original condition that was everything a saxophonist could wish for. This beautiful vintage mouthpiece served as Eric's main mouthpiece for several years and was played on countless performances and recordings. The team at Macsax knew we had to offer that playing experience to saxophonists worldwide. After a meticulous replication process we matched the richness, power, complexity, and feel of that mouthpiece. The FL-65 was born in tribute and homage to these classic mouthpieces and their timeless sounds.
We are proud to offer the FL-65 to our customers in the following tip openings using the original facing geometries of the vintage predecessors:
